Shop Flow
There
are four different ways to process an order. They relate
to the main activities of a manufacturing company. These
activities are building products, stocking products, servicing
products, and shipping products. You may use any one of
these processes for an order, or a line item of an order.
Build
to Specification- Build to order with production control
procedures. This process is used to build an order for a
customer's part with a planned routing. You use the complete
production system to track an order's status and estimated
completion. Shipment is directly to the customer and never
involves finished goods inventory.
Build to Order- Use this for time and material jobs
such as customer service, or jobs that do not have planned
routings. It will accumulate your costs and allow you to
ship directly to the customer.
Build to Stock- When you have parts you make for
inventory or you maintain a large inventory of finished
parts for a customer, use this process to make parts for
finished goods inventory. This feature can be used with
either planned routings or a simple accumulation of costs.
Ship
from Stock- Stock that is shipped directly from finished
goods inventory is accounted for using this process.
